deeply unaware, 2019

This catalogue, containing all the artist’s abstract works since 2015, was published for the 2019 exhibition at the Galerie Marian Goodman, Paris. The text by Robert Fleck explores not just the works exhibited on that occasion but also the overarching group of works.

This catalogue features Moritz's latest body of abstract paintings. Abstraction first appeared in her work in 2015, up until then she was mostly known for her figurative paintings. The works on canvas are remarkable for their complex compositions, intense brushstrokes and vivid colours, with red as the dominant in most. They are produced without sketches or preliminary drawings. For Moritz abstraction is a way to express emotional and philosophical associations, as indicated by the titles such as “Eden” and “Night I”. Moritz’s new paintings immerse the viewer in an experience of intimacy and meditation.

‘What other œuvre thinks so freely about abstraction and figuration, separated into two autonomies and yet connected and capable of developing?’
